MEET THE AWF STAFF:

Trica Oshant Hawkins, BOW Coordinator

Trica has always been a “biophile” — that is, someone who has an affinity for, and love of nature. Pursuing her passions, she received a B.S. in Wildlife Ecology and Renewable Natural Resources from the University of Arizona. She then moved to Sonora, Mexico where she guided natural history and diving expeditions in the Sea of Cortez. She left the Southwest for several years to serve as Education Specialist for Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Pennsylvania. Returning to her desert home, she envisioned and co-founded the Environmental Education Exchange with the mission of increasing environmental literacy in the region through collaborative environmental education programs. After 25 years with the EE Exchange, Trica went back to school to earn a Masters in Conservation Biology in order to work more directly in wildlife conservation. Her thesis work on collaborative conservation led her to work with AWF where she first served on the board and later, as the staff’s Conservation Programs Director. Trica’s work now focuses on AWF’s Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program where she strives to provide all women opportunities to learn and play in the outdoors.
